Baseball Stays Hot, Completes Three-Game Sweep of Williams

Box Score

BRUNSWICK, Maine - The Bowdoin College baseball team completed a series sweep of Williams on Sunday, capping the teams' three-game set with a 4-3 victory at Pickard Field.

The Polar Bears have won six straight games overall and improve to 18-10 while the Ephs fall to 9-17 on the season.

Game Highlights

  • After a quick first two innings, Williams plated the game's first run in the third when Alex Panstares walked, went to second on a sacrifice bunt and came home on a David Rosas single to left
  • Bowdoin replied with a four-run outburst in the bottom of the fourth inning when Chad Martin led off with a triple and came home on a groundout by Peter Cimini. After a Ben Osterholtz double, and Joe Gentile single and stolen base, Colby Joncas doubled to left, scoring both runners. Joncas came around to score on an error on the next play to give Bowdoin a 4-1 lead.
  • The Ephs had a great chance to get back into the contest in the fifth, loading the bases with no one out against Bowdoin starter Richard Arms. But Arms got a strikeout, a popout and a grounder to second to escape unscathed.
  • Williams clawed back into the contest with a pair of runs in the sixth frame. With runners on first and second, a bunt by Panstares resulted in a throwing error by Bowdoin, bringing Nathan Michalski home to make it 4-2. Jackson Parese singled on the next play to trim the lead to 4-3, but Bowdoin's Ryan Dixon was able to escape further trouble by getting a pop out and ground out to end the frame
  • The Ephs had another good chance to tie the game in the top of the ninth, putting runners on first and third with only one out. But Williams' Kellen Hatheway lined a grounder that was stabbed by diving Bowdoin second baseman Luke Cappellano, who flipped it to Sean Mullaney for the force at second and relayed to first for the game-ending double play.

  • Williams out-hit Bowdoin 12-6, but left 10 runners on base in the contest
