Men's Tennis Drops First Match of the Season To Middlebury, 5-4

MIDDLEBURY, Vt. - The Middlebury College men's tennis team dealt Bowdoin its first loss of the spring, 5-4, on Sunday in Vermont.

The second-ranked Polar Bears fall to 11-1 while the fourth-ranked Panthers improve to 10-2.

Match Highlights

  • Bowdoin actually held a 2-1 edge following doubles play thanks to an authoritative 8-2 win from Chase Savage/Gil Roddy at #3 doubles and a hard-fought 8-5 win from Luke Trinka/Luke Tercek at #1
  • But Middlebury responded by winning four of the six singles matches to rally for the win
  • Bowdoin first-years Jerry Jiang (6-4, 2-6, 7-5) and Grant Urken (6-7, 6-2, 6-4) accounted for the Polar Bear points in singles play
  • The match came down to #1 singles where Middlebury's Noah Farrell edged out Bowdoin's Tercek in a dramatic 7-5, 4-6, 6-2 win
