Box Score 2 BRUNSWICK, Maine - The Colby College baseball team claimed game one, 8-1, before Bowdoin took game two, 5-2, as the Maine rivals split a NESCAC doubleheader at Pickard Field on Saturday afternoon.
The Polar Bears move to 13-10 (3-6 NESCAC) while the Mules stand at 7-15 (3-3 NESCAC).
Game One Highlights
- Colby jumped ahead with a six-run second inning in game one and cruised to the 8-1 win
- Tyler Sparks sparked the rally with an RBI double before Ryan Quinn ripped a two-run triple
- Zach Ellenthal and Matt Garcia also delivered run-scoring hits in the frame which gave Colby the lead they would not relinquish
- That proved more than enough support for Soren Hanson, who tossed a complete game win, allowing four hits and one earned run while striking out seven Polar Bears
- Mike Staes took the loss for Bowdoin, permitting six runs in 1.2 innings
- Ellenthal finished 4-4 for Colby with two RBI
- Bowdoin was led by Chris Nadeau, who went 2-3 with a run scored
Game Two Highlights
- Bowdoin rebounded in game two behind a strong start from Brandon Lopez and back-to-back two run frames
- The Polar Bears took the lead when Sean Mullaney came home on a Bjorn Hansen fielder's choice and Evann Dumont-LaPointe singled home Ben Suski in the second inning
- In the third, Jack Wilhoite came home on a wild pitch and Luke Cappellano singled home Suski to double Bowdoin's lead
- Colby got RBI hits from Ryan Quinn and Hanson in the fifth to trim the Polar Bear lead to 4-2, but Lopez managed to get out of further damage as the Mules squandered a second-and-third with no outs opportunity
- Bowdoin added an insurance run in the eighth when Hansen singled home Nick Sadler
- Lopez earned the win with 7.0 innings of work, allowing just one earned run and striking out three batters
- Jacob Stein garned the save by tossing two innings of relief and allowing just one hit
- Tommy Forese took the loss for Colby, permitting two earned runs over 4.0 innings of work
- Sadler, Hansen and Joe Gentile each had two hits in the win for Bowdoin
