Bowdoin Sweeps Amherst In Men's Tennis Top-Ten Clash

BRUNSWICK, Maine - The second-ranked Bowdoin College men's tennis team dealt Amherst its worst regular season loss in a decade, blanking the visitors by a 9-0  score on Saturday afternoon at Maine Pines Tennis Center.

The Polar Bears remain unbeaten at 10-0 this year while ninth-ranked Amherst, who suffered a 9-0 setback for the first time since the NCAA went to the nine-point scoring format in 2006, falls to 12-5.

Match Highlights

  • Bowdoin took a quick 2-0 lead in doubles play thanks to wins from Luke Trinka/Luke Tercek (8-2) and Kyle Wolfe/Jerry Jiang (8-4)
  • The Polar Bears took complete control of the match, however, thanks to the win at #3 from Gil Roddy/Chase Savage, who secured an important 9-8 (3) triumph that gave Bowdoin a 3-0 edge heading into singles
  • In singles play, Bowdoin earned straight-set wins at all six positions, dispatching Amherst without losing a set
  • Trinka put the Polar Bears on the cusp of the win with a 6-2, 6-2 win at #2 and Grant Urken finished off the Purple & White with a 6-3, 6-2 win at #6
