BRUNSWICK, Maine – Senior
Mark Kneiss (Athens, Greece) headlined All-NESCAC and All-Region awards announced last week.
Kneiss was named the NESCAC Player of the Year, the Clarence Chaffee Sportsmanship Award winner, the ITA Northeast Region Senior Player of the Year, and the ITA Northeast Arthur Ashe Leadership & Sportsmanship award winner for his efforts this season.
Kneiss was named First Team All-NESCAC singles and doubles, along with junior teammate
Jackson Codd (Carlsbad, Calif.). Codd was named Second Team All-NESCAC singles along with
Kiran Garapati (Chicago, Ill.) and was also named the Northeast Region ITA Player to Watch.
Kneiss is the fifth Polar Bear to be named the NESCAC Player of the Year, and it's the third time in four seasons a Bowdoin player has been selected for the honor. The senior posted 25 wins on the singles court playing at No. 1 for the Polar Bears. He has also registered 17 wins with playing partner
Jackson Codd at No. 1 doubles. Kneiss is also the fifth player from Bowdoin to be voted the Clarence Chaffee Sportsmanship Award winner. The Clarence Chaffee Sportsmanship Award is given annually to the individual who has displayed a high standard of tennis, coupled with the highest levels of sportsmanship.
Codd went 15-3 in singles play this season, playing at number three for the Polar Bears, while Garapati recorded a 21-9 overall mark, including a 15-6 dual match record this spring, playing at number two singles for Bowdoin.
The Polar Bears finished the season with a record of 19-5, reaching the NCAA Division III quarterfinals.
