CLAREMONT, Calif. - Despite being shorthanded by illness, the Bowdoin men's tennis team won every match it was healthy enough to compete in an 8-1 win over Whitman on Wednesday in California.
The Polar Bears, ranked ninth in the latest ITA Division III poll, improve to 2-0 on the year while the 18th-ranked Missionaries fall to 8-4 on the year.
Match Highlights
- Bowdoin swept doubles play to give themselves a commanding 3-0 lead heading into singles
- Kyle Wolfe and Grant Urken took an impressive 8-2 win at #3 while Luke Tercek/Luke Trinka and Chase Savage/Gil Roddy both earned 8-6 wins at #1 and #2, respectively
- The Polar Bears were unable to field a player at #6 singles, defaulting the point to Whitman
- Bowdoin won every other singles match, however, including straight-set wins by Tercek (7-5, 6-3) and Roddy (6-1, 7-5)
- Trinka (6-2, 4-6, 10-8), Wolfe (2-6, 6-4, 6-2) and Urken (1-6, 6-4, 6-3) gutted out tough three-set wins to round out the day
