BRUNSWICK, Maine - Head Coach Terry Meagher collected career win number 541 in his final regular season home game at the helm of the Bowdoin men's ice hockey team as the Polar Bears held off Trinity in a 2-1 final.
The Polar Bears (12-7-3, 8-5-3 NESCAC) extend their current win streak to eight straight games, including victories over all the top teams in NESCAC play. Trinity leaves Maine at 16-5-1 (12-4-0 NESCAC).
Game Highlights
- Chris Wallace collected the puck behind Trinity's net and fed Matt Sullivan in the low slot. Positioned directly in front Alex Morin, Sullivan wristed a shot top left shelf to put Bowdoin up 1-0 6:24 into the game.
- Wallace set up another goal to double Bowdoin's lead with 1:15 remaining in the opening period, feeding Mitch Barrington at the left point. Spencer Antunez tipped the puck as Barrington's shot fired past, redirecting the puck into Trinity's net.
- Tyler Whitney broke up a 2-on-1 opportunity for Bowdoin, with Whitney sliding to the ice and blocking a Polar Bear pass halfway through the second.
- Ross Mandigo looked to put Trinity on the board with a breakout 1-on-1 under two minutes into the final period. Mandigo tried to go five-hole on Peter Cronin, only to see the goalie turn his shot away with a stick save.
- Trinity pulled within one off a Whitney goal 11:41 into the third. Following a faceoff in the Bowdoin zone, the puck kicked out to the top where Bryce Eviston and Bradley Buvinow combined to land the puck just outside Bowdoin's goal line. The puck sat on the right post before Whitney poked in Trinity's first.
- Anthony Sabitsky looked to tally an equalizer with a turnaround shot from the low slot with under three to play, but Cronin turned the puck away.
