Men's Basketball Survives Second-Half Rally To Tip Southern Maine

BRUNSWICK, Maine - Five Bowdoin College players scored in double figures to lead the Polar Bear men's basketball team to a 86-79 win over the University of Southern Maine on Tuesday evening at Morrell Gymnasium.

The Polar Bears win their home opener and improve to 3-2 while the Huskies fall to 3-3 on the season.

Game Highlights

  • Bowdoin jumped out to an 8-0 lead just minutes into the game thanks to five early points from Jack Simonds.
  • The Polar Bears extended their lead to as many as 13 points in the first half, 24-11, following a Liam Farley three-pointer.
  • Southern Maine cut into Bowdoin's lead, trimming the advantage to just six points, 39-33, after a Jimmy Starks jumper.
  • David Reynolds made it a 42-33 Bowdoin advantage at halftime, hitting a three-pointer in the final minute before the break.
  • Bowdoin still held an eight-point edge, 59-51, with 13:09 to go before USM made a push to grab their first lead of the game.
  • Jalen Lincoln sparked a 15-2 run with consecutive three-pointers and Zach Leal gave the Huskies the lead with 8:43 remaining, 64-61.

  • Leal netted a game-high 30 points for Southern Maine while Lincoln pitched in 18 points off the bench.
  • Jimmy Starks scored 16 with ten rebounds for the Huskies.
  • Simonds led Bowdoin with 19 points to go with eight rebounds while Tim Ahn scored 13 with a career-high 14 assists.
  • Liam Farley and David Reynolds also scored 13 while Neil Fuller scored 12 for Bowdoin. Hugh O'Neil led all players with 14 rebounds.
  • Bowdoin owned a 44-35 edge in rebounds and hit on 47% from the field. USM stayed close thanks to 11 three-pointers.
