Todesco Tallies Two and Lison Lends Three Assists in Win Over UNE

Box Score

BRUNSWICK, Maine – The Bowdoin men's ice hockey team tallied its first non-conference victory of the season in a back and forth 5-3 battle against the University of New England on Tuesday night.

The Nor'Easters (3-3-1) tied the game on two separate occasions before taking the lead midway through the second period. The Polar Bears (2-1-0) scored the game-winning goal less than two minutes into the third.

Game Highlights

  • The Polar Bears put themselves on the board at 10:28 following a faceoff in the left circle. Cody Todesco won the draw and kicked the puck back to Matthew Lison. Lison fired a quick shot on net that bested Joe Noonan for the 1-0 lead.
  • Samuel Michaud evened the game four minutes later, capitalizing on a five-on-three power play. The puck rebounded to the right post following a Blaise Healy shot, allowing Michaud to collect it for the put-back.
  • Bowdoin regained its lead with 3:29 remaining in the opening period. Pat Geary set up the play as he skated towards net and dumped a pass to his right for an unmarked Thomas Dunleavy. Dunleavy lost control of the puck on a misplayed shot, but slid to the ice and hooked it towards net. The last-ditch effort afforded the first-year his first career goal.
  • Michaud set up the Nor'Easters second tying goal of the night just 18 seconds into the second frame. UNE won the opening faceoff and controlled play in Bowdoin's defensive zone, allowing Michaud to carry towards goal. The first-year passed back up to Armand Uomoleale who deflected the puck up and over Erik Wurman.
  • The Nor'Easters took their first lead of the game 8:19 into the period off another helper by Michaud. Skating towards the low side of the left faceoff circle, Michaud found Ian Rodden in the high slot. Rodden lined up an open one-timer to take the 3-2 advantage.
  • Bowdoin responded with a power play goal exactly one minute later. Noonan turned away Lison's initial shot, but Austin Ricci slid the puck towards the far post where Todesco buried his first goal of the season to knot the game at 3-3.
  • Despite opening the third period on the penalty kill, Bowdoin held the Nor'Easters off until both teams were at even strength and scored soon after. Todesco found Lison who batted a bouncing puck across the crease to Ricci. Ricci finished off the play to account for the Polar Bears third lead of the evening.
  • Todesco ended the game with an empty netter with 30 seconds to play. With the puck up in the air at center ice, the sophomore went air born to pull it down and skate into Nor'Easter territory. Beating a defender, Todesco netted his second of the game.

  • Wurman tallied his first win of the year with 33 saves for Bowdoin.
