Cronin Sets Career High in Shutout Tie Against Amherst

BRUNSWICK, Maine – Peter Cronin stopped all 46 shots he faced in net as the Bowdoin men's ice hockey team returned to Watson Arena in a 0-0 tie against Amherst on Friday night.

The shutout tie was the first for Bowdoin (4-5-2, 2-3-2 NESCAC) in the 21st century. The Jeffs (3-4-4, 2-1-3 NESCAC) record their first shutout of the season.

Game Highlights

  • Will Vosejpka saw his power play shot deflected into the air off Cronin's stick, only to have the puck tracked down midair by Jason Nawrocki with four minutes remaining in the opening period.
  • Cody Todesco fed Austin Ricci from behind the net for a one-timer with Dave Cunningham making a point blank save two minutes later.
  • With under a minute remaining Spencer Antunez was denied by a Cunningham glove save off a turnover in Amherst's defensive zone.
  • Daniel McMullan carried down the right boards for a low angle shot with five minutes remaining in the second, only to be denied by Cunningham, with the rebound sliding through the slot for a one-timer by Matt Rubinoff that was again turned away.
  • Cunningham continued to hold off Bowdoin's offense with another one-on-one stop against Matthew Melanson midway through the final frame.
  • Kevin Ryder snuck an off-speed shot through the Bowdoin defense, with Cronin making the pad save with five minutes to play.
  • Midway through overtime Todesco looked to capitalize on a takeaway at Bowdoin's blueline and skated towards Amherst's goal with a defender trailing. The first-year ringed a shot off the pipe.
  • Brendan Burke teed up an open shot only to have a Bowdoin defender slide through and break up the play, resulting in another breakaway opportunity for Todesco.
