Men's Tennis Sweeps Singles Against MIT to Advance to NCAA Regional Final

MIDDLEBURY, Vt. - The Bowdoin College men's tennis team swept the first three completed singles matches to take a 5-1 win over MIT in the Second Round of the NCAA Division III Tournament at Middlebury College on Saturday.

The Polar Bears (15-5) advance to the Third Round on Sunday where they will face the host Panthers at 11:00 a.m. MIT ends its season with a record of 16-5.

With Bowdoin's Noah Bragg and Kyle Wolfe winning at #3 doubles (8-2) and MIT's Brian Lilley and Avi Walden claiming #2 doubles (8-5), the focus turned to court #1 with a key point on the line. Bowdoin's Luke Trinka and Luke Tercek battled MIT's Kevin Wang and Eugene Oh to a 9-8 (8-6) victory, giving the Polar Bears an important 2-1 edge heading into singles.

The Polar Bears took advantage with a trio of straight-set singles triumphs to seal the match. Tercek finished off Lilley at #5 (6-0, 6-2), Gil Roddy defeated Kenny Gea at #6 (6-3, 6-1) and Kyle Wolfe clinched it at #3 against Dennis Garcia (6-1, 6-3).

Sunday's match will be the third this season between Bowdoin and Middlebury. The Panthers have claimed the first two meetings: a 8-1 decision on April 18 and a 5-3 win last weekend in the NESCAC semifinals.
