Baseball Splits With Bates in Sunday Twinbill at Franklin Pierce

RINDGE, N.H. - The Bowdoin College baseball team split an Easter Sunday doubleheader against Bates in a pair of contests played at Franklin Pierce University.

The Polar Bears claimed game one, 15-3, before falling 9-5 in game two. Bowdoin stands at 7-11 (2-3 NESCAC) this spring while the Bobcats are 6-6 (1-1 NESCAC).

Bowdoin exploded for five runs in the opening inning of game one and never looked back, tacking on four more in the third and three more in the fourth en route to the victory. Chad Martin went 4-4 with four runs scored while Sean Mullaney also enjoyed a perfect day at the plate by going 3-3 with three RBI. Chris Cameron and Tom Wells each scored a pair of runs as well for Bowdoin. Henry Van Zant got more support than he needed on the mound as he went 6.0 frames, permitting one earned run and striking out three.

Bates jumped to an early lead in game two, scoring twice in the third and three runs in the fourth to open up a 7-2 lead on their way to a 9-5 victory. Mullaney and Wells each had a pair of hits as did Buddy Shea and Sam Canales. Chris Cameron reached base four times on a hit and three walks. Erik Jacobsen took the loss for Bowdoin, allowing four earned runs over 3.0 innings.

Bowdoin is scheduled to play St. Joseph's on Thursday afternoon. A determination on whether the contest will be played will be made later this week.
