Box Score BRUNSWICK, Maine - Chris Cameron laced a two-out, two-run single in the seventh evening to break a late tie and lift the Bowdoin College baseball team to a 7-4 win over Colby on Friday afternoon at Pickard Field.
The Polar Bears won the opener of the three-game series and improved to 12-16 (4-5 NESCAC) while the Mules fall to 15-10 (4-6 NESCAC). The teams will play a doubleheader on Saturday in Waterville beginning at noon.
Henry Van Zant earned the victory on the mound for Bowdoin by tossing a complete game, allowing six hits and striking out seven. Soren Hanson was tagged with the loss for Colby by allowing five earned runs over 6.2 frames, scattering 10 hits and striking out seven.
With Bowdoin holding a 2-1 lead heading into the fifth, Colby took its only lead of the game when Jason Buco scampered home on a double steal for the Mules and Hanson singled home Tommy Forese to give the visitors a 3-2 advantage. The Polar Bears answered with a pair of runs in the bottom of the frame when Aaron Rosen doubled home Peter Cimini and then came home from third on a throwing error to grab a 4-3 edge.
Colby knotted the game again in the seventh inning with runners on second and third, Andrew Currier's well-placed bunt plated Forese to make it 4-4.
Bowdoin took the lead for good with the bases loaded and two outs in the bottom of the seventh. Pinch hitter Chris Cameron laced a two-run single up the middle, scoring Rose and Erik Jacobsen to give the hosts a 6-4 edge. Sam Canales followed with a single to center to bring home Cole DiRoberto and make it 7-4.
Hanson had three hits in the losing effort for Colby. Jacobsen, Rosen and Canales had two hits apiece for Bowdoin. Rosen scored three runs in the game.
