Box Score STANDISH, Maine – The St. Joseph's College baseball team used a four-run sixth-inning to overcome Bowdoin in a four-hour epic on Monday night, 13-12.
The Polar Bears drop to 8-13 on the season as Saint Joseph's improves to 18-10. Bowdoin played as the home team after the game was moved to Standish due to unplayable field conditions in Brunswick. The two teams combined for 32 hits and seven errors in the nine-inning game.
Logan Simon started on the mound for Bowdoin going 3.1 innings while giving up seven runs with five strikeouts. On the opposite side, Steven Albert got the nod for the Monks and went three inning with one walk and three Ks. Each starter gave up one homerun. Josh Partridge earned the save for Saint Joseph's escaping the ninth inning with runners on the corners.
At the plate Peter Cimini led the Bowdoin offense with three hits, runs, and RBI. The center fielder also notched a leadoff homer in the bottom of the first. Cole DiRoberto, Chad Martin, Buddy Shea, and Sam Canales all tallied doubles on the day against the Monks. DiRoberto, Martin, and Shea were joined by Erik Jacobsen, Sean Mullaney, and Aaron Rosen with two RBI a piece. Rosen also had a stolen base.
The Monks put five runs on the board in the top of the first, answered by the solo shot from Cimini in the bottom half. Each team put up two more in the second before playing a shutout third. The Polar Bears took the lead in the fourth inning with a six run outpouring, only to have the Monks answer with six total runs in the following two innings. Bowdoin got three runs back, pulling within one, in the bottom of the sixth and eighth innings but were unable to even the score.
Bowdoin plays again tomorrow in a doubleheader at Husson beginning at 5:00 pm.
