Men's Tennis Grounds Cardinals in Home-Opening Victory

BRUNSWICK, Maine - The Bowdoin College men's tennis team cruised to a win in its home opener on Saturday over Wesleyan University, 8-1.

The Polar Bears, ranked eighth in the nation, improve to 7-1 this spring (2-0 NESCAC) while the 18th-ranked Cardinals fall to 2-4 (0-1 NESCAC) in a match played indoors at the Maine Pines Tennis Center.

Bowdoin dominated doubles play and never looked back, sprinting to a 3-0 advantage thanks to wins from Luke Trinka/Luke Tercek (8-2),  Kyle Wolstencroft/Gil Roddy (8-3) and Kyle Wolfe/Chase Savage (8-4).

In singles action, Bowdoin got straight-set victories from Noah Bragg at #2 (6-2, 6-4), Kyle Wolfe at #3 (6-2, 7-6), Savage at #4 (6-3, 6-2) and Gil Roddy (6-2, 6-2). Luke Tercek accounted for the other Polar Bear win with a three-set triumph (6-7, 7-5, 10-5) at #5.

The Polar Bears will return to action next Saturday at home against Brandeis University (12:00 p.m.).
