CLAREMONT, Calif. - The Bowdoin College men's tennis team collected a pair of wins to close out its California trip with an impressive 6-1 mark.
The Polar Bears rallied in singles play both days to defeat Whitman 5-4 on Wednesday and Trinity (Conn.) 6-3 on Thursday. Bowdoin is ranked #10 in the latest ITA Division III poll. Whitman is #15 while Trinity stands at #23.
Down 3-0 for the second straight match after doubles, Bowdoin got singles wins from positions #2-6 in singles play to rally for the win. Kyle Wolfe claimed the key win, earning a 6-2, 2-6, 6-3 victory at #3. Noah Bragg (6-2, 7-5), Chase Savage (7-6, 6-4), Luke Tercek (6-0, 6-3) and Gil Roddy (6-4, 6-2) all netted straight-set wins to complete the comeback.
Against Trinity, Bowdoin got a point in doubles play from the #3 pairing of Savage/Roddy, 8-1, and again dominated singles action to put the Bantams away. Wolfe (6-3, 1-6, 7-5), Savage (7-5, 3-6, 7-6) and Tercek (6-4, 4-6, 6-3) all won three-set battles to aid the effort. Bragg (6-4, 6-4) and Roddy (6-4, 6-1) accounted for the other Polar Bear wins in the match.
Bowdoin will return to action with a doubleheader on Saturday, March 28 when they host Wesleyan (2:00 p.m.) and Southern Maine (7:30 p.m.).
