SHENANDOAH, Texas - The Bowdoin College women's swimming and diving team enjoyed a successful trip to the NCAA Division III Championship last weekend in Texas.
Although none of the Polar Bear entrants qualified for the finals in their respective events, the experience proved valuable to a squad that sent its most qualifiers to nationals in over a decade.
Individually, first-year Mariah Rawding took 18th in the nation in the 100 breaststroke (1:04.89) and followed it up with a 21st-place showing in the 200 breaststroke (2:21.60). Rawding also raced in the 50 freestyle, placing 32nd (23.90).
The top relay finish of the weekend came from the 400 medley that just missed out on qualifying for the B-finals by taking 17th in 3:54.48. Lela Garner, Rawding, Sophia Walker and Bridget Killian comprised the squad.
The 400 freestyle relay team (Killian, Rawding, Garner, Walker) took 18th, the 200 free relay (Rawding, Patty Boyer, Killian, Walker) took 19th as Killian set a new school record leading off the event (52.09). The 200 medley squad (Boyer, Rawding, Walker, Killian) were 21st overall.
