Trinka Wins Three-Setter To Give Men's Tennis Shocking Win at Redlands

REDLANDS, Calif. - The Bowdoin College men's tennis team rallied from a 3-0 deficit in doubles to shock the University of Redlands on Tuesday evening, 5-4.

The Polar Bears, who claimed five of the six singles matches to post the comeback win, improve to 4-1 and are ranked 10th in the latest Division III poll. Redlands stands at 9-4 and is ranked 18th in the nation.

The Bulldogs completely dominated doubles play as Bowdoin was swept in all three positions. The hosts needed just two singles wins to claim the upset victory, but the Polar Bears mounted a tremendous rally.

Kyle Wolfe (6-3, 6-2), Chase Savage (6-2, 6-3), Luke Tercek (6-3, 6-0) and Gil Roddy (6-3, 6-4) made quick work of their opponents at positions #3-6 to quickly draw the match even. With Bowdoin losing the match at #2 singles, the result came down to the #1 court. Luke Trinka won the first set in a tiebreaker, dropped a close second set, and dominated the third set, 6-1, to claim a 7-6, 5-7, 6-1 win and give the Polar Bears the unlikely win.
