Box Score BRUNSWICK, Maine - The Bowdoin College men's ice hockey team scored a pair of second-period goals to take a 2-1 win over Hamilton on Friday evening at Watson Arena.
The Polar Bears improve to 11-5-3 (5-5-3 NESCAC) on the season while the Continentals fall to 7-8-4 (5-6-2 NESCAC). The teams played to a 4-4 tie in Clinton on January 9.
After a scoreless first period, Bowdoin scored twice to take the lead in the second frame, courtesy of the same duo. A breakaway midway through the period came to the stick of Kendall Culbertson, who fed a cross-ice pass to Zach Kokosa for the game's first goal at 8:39. With under a minute to go in the period, Kokosa intercepted a puck at the blue line and skated in to take the initial shot. Tim Nowacki made the first stop for Hamilton, but the loose puck came to the stick of Culbertson, who deposited the rebound for a 2-0 Bowdoin lead.
Hamilton cut into the Polar Bear lead early in the third period when Robbie Murden carried the puck into the zone and threw a shot on net. The fluttering puck skipped past Fenkell inside the left post just 1:38 into the stanza. The Continentals had several chances to tie, including a pair of power plays, but couldn't find the equalizer. Max Fenkell secured the win with seven third period saves.
Fenkell finished with 21 stops for Bowdoin. Nowacki had 25 saves for Hamilton. The Polar Bears will host Amherst on Saturday afternoon at Watson Arena for a 4:00 p.m. start. The Continentals travel to Colby for a 3:00 p.m. faceoff tomorrow.
