BRISTOL, R.I. - The Bowdoin College men's basketball team lost its season-opener to Western Connecticut State, 94-77, at the Roger Williams Tip-Off Tournament on Friday night.

The Polar Bears (0-1) will play in the consolation game against against Daniel Webster on Saturday.

Game Highlights

• A big first half lifted Western Conn to an early lead that proved too big for Bowdoin to overcome
• The Polar Bears sprinted to a 7-2 lead, but WCSU got hot from the field, replying with a 26-6 run to take a 28-13 lead
• WCSU extended their lead to 20 points, 43-23, at halftime
• Bowdoin was able to close to within 12 points, but could not cut the lead into single digits in the second half despite out-scoring WCSU 54-51

• WCSU shot 47% from the field, including seven three-pointers
• Bowdoin connected on 39% of its shots and went just 3-17 from three-point range
• Lucas Hausman netted a game-high 34 points and was joined in double-digits by Jack Simonds, who scored 14 points and grabbed seven rebounds in his collegiate debut
• Matt Palecki led Bowdoin with ten rebounds
• WCSU had five players in double figures, led by 17 points from Luis Bridtter and 11 rebounds
