Box Score
BRUNSWICK, Maine – The Bowdoin field hockey team used three first half goals to secure the team's ninth trip to the NCAA Final Four with a 3-0 win over Wellesley on Sunday afternoon at Ryan Field.
The top-ranked Polar Bears (20-0) collected their third consecutive quarterfinal win, dating back to a 2013 upset at Montclair State, after topping Wellesley (17-4) for the second time this season.
How It Happened
- Rachel Kennedy gave Bowdoin its first goal of the game just over four minutes into play, successfully converting on a penalty stroke, and tallied career goal 100 in the process. The senior set a new single season scoring record with her second goal of the game as she sent home goal 33 on the year.
- Kennedy's second goal came off a cross from Juliana Fiore near from the right post. After Meredith Tibbals worked to the keep the ball inside Wellesley's defensive 25, Tibbals found Fiore who worked her way towards the end line. Fiore passed left, across the goal face, for a Kennedy one-timer.
- Bowdoin's final goal came with just seven seconds remaining on the clock in the first half as Kelsey Mullaney blasted a shot from outside the circle. Kimmy Ganong connected with Mullaney's ball and deflected the shot up and over Wellesley's Lucy Hurlock for Bowdoin's third of the half.
- Hurlock and the Blue's defense faced ten more shots from the Polar Bears in the second half, including six corners, but Wellesley stood tall and denied every Bowdoin bid.
- Hurlock ended the day with ten saves, including a slide tackle to deny a one-on-one, as the Blue were outshot 22-3. Clara Belitz made one save for Bowdoin who held a 10-5 edge in penalty corners.
