Box Score NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Bowdoin field hockey team clinched the top spot in NESCAC post-season play after defeating Connecticut College 4-0 on Saturday afternoon.
The top-ranked Polar Bears remain perfect at 14-0 (9-0 NESCAC) after shutting out the host Camels (4-10, 1-8 NESCAC).
How It Happened
- Bowdoin got on the board just under 13 minutes into play as Kelsey Mullaney converted on a penalty corner, with a quick one-timer on the feed from Emily McColgan.
- Mettler Growney and Kim Kahnweiler tallied unassisted marks with five and two minutes remaining in the half, respectively. Growney put the Polar Bears up 2-0 as she buried a rebound from the center of the circle. Kahnweiler extended Bowdoin's lead with a shot from the top of the circle that found the back of the net.
- Bowdoin's final goal of the game came off the stick of Rachel Kennedy 3:20 into the second half. Kennedy redirected a Kahnweiler hit to put Bowdoin ahead 4-0.
- Bowdoin outshot their hosts by a 16-4 margin and held an 11-2 edge in penalty corners. Clara Belitz stopped four shots for the Polar Bears as Ryley van der Velde made 10 saves for the Camels.
