Box Score BRUNSWICK, Maine – A last minute goal by Brendan Conroy was not enough as the Bowdoin men's ice hockey team fell 2-1 to Trinity in a Friday night NESCAC matchup.
The 9th ranked Bantams lead the conference with a 11-1-1 (6-0-1 NESCAC), while the Polar Bears drop their second straight and fall to 7-4-2 (3-4-2 NESCAC).
After trading chances in the opening period, the Bantams broke it open in the final three minutes with a pair of goals. Skating into Bowdoin territory down the right wing, Brandon Cole slid a centering pass to Tim Shea low in the slot for quick shot. Cole's bid bounced around Max Fenkell's pads before sneaking through for the 1-0 lead at 17:33. With just one minute remaining, the Bantams took the 2-0 off a wrister by Michael Flynn. Ryan Cole worked the puck down the left side and fed Flynn inside who wristed his shot top right shelf.
Anthony Sabitsky looked for his first of the game five minutes into the third period with a close range wrister that Fenkell read and gloved out of the air to keep Bowdoin within striking distance. The Polar Bears went on their third power play of the game midway through the period, looking to pull within one. Jay Kourkoulis' clapper from the top was blocked in front and deflected behind Nathaniel Heilbron across the goal face, skirting free of danger. Cullen Geary stepped in with a decisive defensive play in the final five minutes, disrupting a breakaway opportunity for Trinity. Bowdoin pulled within one with just one minute remaining as Conroy buried a one-timer from above the right faceoff circle off a low feed from John McGinnis.
Heilbron stopped 33 shots in net for the Bantams, with Fenkell making 30 saves on the opposite side for Bowdoin.
Trinity heads to Colby for a 3:00 p.m. game tomorrow afternoon. The Polar Bears look to rebound with a 4:00 p.m. contest against Wesleyan at Watson Arena.
