NEW LONDON, Conn. - The Bowdoin College men's tennis team extended its winning streak to five matches with a pair of impressive road wins at MIT and Connecticut College this weekend.
The 12th-ranked Polar Bears stand at 7-4 overall after edging 28th-ranked MIT on Saturday, 5-4, and cruising past Conn. College on Sunday, 7-2.
Bowdoin used some late dramatics to stun the Engineers in the first match of the weekend. Trailing 3-0 following doubles play, the Polar Bears won five of six singles matches to complete a dramatic turnaround. After Chris Lord and Kyle Wolstencroft won in straight-sets at #3 and #4 for Bowdoin, Sam King and Hugh Mo rallied from one-set deficits to win at #2 and #6 for the Polar Bears. With the match tied at 4-4, Chase Savage dominated the third set of a 7-4, 2-6, 6-0 win to complete the comeback.
The Polar Bears used a more traditional route to victory against the Camels, taking a 2-1 edge after doubles wins by King/Wolstencroft at #1 (8-4) and Peter Davis/Eric Chien at #3 (8-1). Luke Trinka, Lord, Wolstencroft, Savage and Mo each took straight-set singles wins to clinch the victory for Bowdoin.
The Polar Bears will return to action next weekend with a pair of matches - at Tufts on Saturday (10:00 a.m.) before returning home to battle Amherst on Sunday (2:00 p.m.).
