GORHAM, Maine - The Bowdoin College baseball team hung with sixth-ranked Southern Maine before giving up a pair of late runs in a 5-3 setback on Friday afternoon.

The Polar Bears (13-10-1) have lost three straight and will look to rebound tomorrow against Williams College with a doubleheader beginning at noon. The Huskies improve to 22-6 overall this season with the win.

On Friday, USM took the lead three times, only to see the Polar Bears rally on each occasion. Trailing 1-0 in the second inning, Bowdoin got on the board when Chris Nadeau walked, moved to second on a single by Sean Mullaney, and came around to score on an error.

The Huskies plated another run in the third, but Bowdoin answered when Aaron Rosen ripped a double to left center that scored Nadeau again. USM quickly regained the lead in the bottom of the frame, only to see the Polar Bears tie it for the third time in the top of the sixth when Rosen lofted a sacrifice fly, plating Mullaney to make it 3-3.

USM pieced together a two-run rally in the bottom of the sixth, however, and the Huskies bullpen put the final nine Bowdoin batters down in order to secure the 5-3 win.

Nadeau reached base four times for Bowdoin while Rosen had a pair of hits and two RBI. Sam Dexter and Troy Thibodeau had three hits each for USM. Christian Martin was tagged with the loss for Bowdoin after being charged with the two go-ahead runs in the sixth. Alex Tobey got the win in relief for the Huskies with three innings of one-hit ball.
