Second-Ranked Amherst Snaps Men's Tennis Winning Streak

BRUNSWICK, Maine - The Bowdoin College men's tennis team couldn't overcome a 3-0 deficit after doubles play in an eventual 7-2 loss to Amherst on Sunday at Maine Pines Tennis Club.

The third-ranked Jeffs improve to 24-2 and 3-0 in NESCAC play. The 12th-ranked Polar Bears see their six-game win streak snapped and fall to 8-5 overall and 3-1 in conference action.

Amherst jumped to a 3-0 lead in doubles action, despite the best efforts of Sam King and Kyle Wolstencroft at #1. Joey Fritz and Justin Reindel hung on for a 9-8 (7-3) win to cap the sweep for the Jeffs.

Chase Savage was able to get one back early in singles action for Bowdoin, claiming a 6-4, 6-4 win at #6, but Amherst replied with two victories to clinch the match victory. Kyle Wolstencroft earned a win at #5 for the Polar Bears, taking a 6-1, 5-7, 7-6 win. The match was closer than the final score indicated, as Bowdoin fell in three sets in each of the top three singles positions.

The Polar Bears will return to action on Thursday afternoon against Colby at 4:00 p.m.
