Men's Hockey Suffers First Loss of the Season at Conn. College

NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Connecticut College men's ice hockey team used a pair of first period goals to hand Bowdoin its first loss of the season, 3-1, on Friday evening. 

The Polar Bears fall to 6-1-1 (3-1-1 NESCAC), while the Camels climb to 2-5-0 overall (2-3-0 NESCAC).

The majority of the game's scoring came in the opening period with Bowdoin taking a 1-0 lead on a Mitch Barrington goal at 7:29. Connecticut answered with a pair of quick goals as Joe Birmingham and Zach Shapiro gave the Camels the lead before the end of the frame. 

After a scoreless second period, the Camels sealed the win with an empty-netter in the final minute to hand Bowdoin its first loss of the year.

Fenkell made 20 saves for the Polar Bears while Tom Conlin stopped 18 shots for the Camels. Connecticut College went 1-6 on the power play while Bowdoin went 0-2.

Bowdoin looks to get back in the win column as the Polar Bears travel to Tufts tomorrow afternoon for a 4:00 p.m. game.
