Box Score BRUNSWICK, Maine - Connor Quinn scored with 52 seconds remaining in regulation to give the Bowdoin College men's ice hockey team a 3-3 draw on Sunday afternoon at Watson Arena.
Both the Polar Bears and Ephs move to 1-0-1 on the young season with the result. Colby Cretella scored his first two career goals for Williams while Mitch Barrington and John McGinnis also scored for Bowdoin.
After a scoreless first frame, the game opened up in the second period. Barrington ripped a slap shot just 37 seconds into the frame to give the Polar Bears a 1-0 lead. Williams answered with a pair of goals in a span of 2:16 as Cretella wristed a top-shelf shot from the right dot at 6:53, and David Italiano popped a quick shot over Bowdoin rookie netminder Peter Cronin at 9:09. McGinnis was able to knot the score before intermission, redirecting a slap shot from Barrington at 11:49 to make it 2-2 heading to the third.
In the third, Williams jumped ahead when Cretella jumped on a loose puck in front of the goal at 7:37. The Ephs made a bit to extend their lead with six minutes remaining, but Cronin made a nice stop on George Hunkele to maintain the one-goal deficit.
That proved important as, following a Bowdoin timeout and with Cronin pulled from goal, the Polar Bears took advantage as McGinnis played a centering pass from the right wing to Quinn on the doorstep. The senior poked home the game-tying goal with 52 seconds left to force overtime.
Bowdoin had the better chances in overtime, earning a 3-1 shot advantage, but couldn't find the game-winner. Sean Dougherty stopped 33 shots for Williams. Cronin made 27 saves for the Polar Bears. Only one penalty was called in the entire contest.
