Bats Come Alive as Baseball Thumps Williams in Series Opener

Box Score

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. - The Bowdoin baseball team defeated Williams, 13-5, in a NESCAC non-division matchup today at Williams' Bobby Coombs Field.

The Polar Bears (18-9) continue to ride a winning streak that now stretches to nine. The Ephs are 10-17 on the season.

After Williams gained an early 2-1 lead by plating a pair of runs off of Bowdoin ace Oliver Van Zant, Bowdoin responded with two in the fourth to gain their own one-run lead.  Bowdoin then added three off of the Williams' bullpen in the sixth and went on to win.

Van Zant (3-1) got the win for Bowdoin, after going 6.0 innings and giving up two runs (none earned) and striking out eight.  Williams starter Thomas Murphy (0-3) took the loss.

Sam Canales picked up the RBI on Bowdoin's first run, which came in the second.  Aaron Rosen and Canales each drove in a run when Bowdoin retook the lead for good in the fourth.  Luke Regan and Erik Jacobsen each tallied three RBIs in the game, with Jacobsen hitting a triple. Rosen finished the day 3-3 with five runs scored, tying the school's single-game mark most recently done by Brett Gorman against Colby in 2011.

Bowdoin remains in Williamstown to complete the series tomorrow with a doubleheader.  The first game is scheduled to begin at noon.
