Baseball Extends Win Streak With Ninth-Inning Rally at Husson

Box Score

BANGOR, Maine - The Bowdoin College baseball team scored three times in the ninth inning to rally for a 6-5 win at Husson on Tuesday evening.

The win improves the Polar Bears to 17-9 this season and extends their winning streak to eight games, the longest win streak for the program since winning 11 consecutive games in the 2006 campaign.

Down 4-3 heading into the top of the ninth, Erik Jacobsen led off with a triple and was replaced by pinch runner Kyle LeBlanc. LeBlanc scampered home on a passed ball to tie the game at 4-4. Bowdoin took the lead with a two-out rally later in the frame as Tim McGarry walked and Aaron Rosen singled him to third. Luke Regan reached on a throwing error that brought home McGarry for a 5-4 lead and Sam Canales ripped a run-scoring single to center to up the lead to 6-4.

The insurance run proved crucial in the bottom of the frame as the Eagles scored to draw within a single run. But David Zabinsky was able to get the final two outs with the tying run on third to secure the win.

Bowdoin had built a 3-0 lead early in the game before a four-run seventh gave the hosts the lead. Rosen had an RBI single in the first, Duncan Taylor came home on an error in the second and Rosen took a bases loaded walk in the fifth to account for the Polar Bear scoring.

Harry Ridge tossed a solid 6.2 frames on the mound, allowing four earned runs and striking out seven in a no-decision. Kevin McDonough picked up the win with one inning of relief. Zabinsky escaped further damage in the ninth to collect the save.

Rosen had three hits in the win for Bowdoin and also walked. Taylor had a pair of hits.

Bowdoin will return to action this Saturday and Sunday with a three-game set at Williams. The opener is on Saturday at 4:00 p.m.
