Box Score BRUNSWICK, Maine - Shannon Brady scored a career-high 25 points and grabbed 13 rebounds to lead the Bowdoin College women's basketball team to a 67-56 non-conference win over Endicott College on Tuesday evening at Morrell Gymnasium.
The Polar Bears improve to 3-0 with the win in their home debut. The Gulls fall for the first time this season and drop to 2-1.
Brady hit 12 of 15 shots while also collecting a pair of blocked shots and two steals. Megan Phelps had 11 points for the Polar Bears while Anna Prohl scored eight points and grabbed seven rebounds off the bench. Samantha Crough had 15 points, four rebounds, four blocks and two steals for Endicott. Kelsey Cuddy also scored 15 for the Gulls while Kayleen Whall came off the bench to provide nine points and 11 rebounds.
Bowdoin held a slim 28-26 edge at halftime and the teams stood deadlocked at 33-33 following a Julie Manning lay-in for Endicott with 17:51 remaining. The Polar Bears answered with a decisive 16-0 run to take command of the game.
Brady scored eight points in the surge and Kirsten Prue connected on a pair of three-pointers, the second of which gave Bowdoin a 49-33 advantage with 14:43 to play. The Polar Bears extended their lead to as many as 19 points later in the period before a 12-2 Endicott run, capped by a pair of free throws by Crough, cut the lead to single digits, 65-56, with 4:03 to play. Bowdoin held the Gulls scoreless for the remainder of the game to preserve the win.
Thanks to Brady, Bowdoin owned a dominating 46-10 advantage in points in the paint and took advantage of 20 Endicott turnovers, converting them into 22 points. Despite struggling from long-distance (3-21), Bowdoin finished at 40% from the field for the contest while holding Endicott to 33% for the game.
Bowdoin will return to court on Saturday at home in a non-conference game against Bates (2:00 p.m.). Endicott will play their home opener on Thursday night against Salem State (7:00 p.m.).
