Bowdoin Falls to Trinity in Final Day at NESCAC Baseball Championship

Box Score

HARTFORD, Conn. - For the third consecutive season, the Bowdoin College baseball team fell just short in its bid for a NESCAC title, losing 6-0 to Trinity on Sunday on the final day of the conference championship tournament.

Sophomore Peter Burrows pitched a complete game nine-inning shutout for the Bantams, who improve to 32-9 overall with their seventh straight win and earn an automatic bid the NCAA Div. III National Championship Tournament. The Polar Bears are 25-18 after today and will hold out hope for an at-large bid when selections are announced Sunday evening.

Burrows started the game hot and kept the ball rolling, allowing just four hits in the game. Junior Alex Almeida got the bats going when he broke a scoreless tie in the bottom of the third with an RBI double.  The Bantams added another run in the fourth after a deep double by junior Joe Papa and RBI single by freshman Adam Moossmann.

Trinity posted three more runs in the sixth, highlighted by a two-RBI single by Moossmann, and a well struck RBI double by freshman Bryan Wolfe.  The Bantams added one last insurance run in the seventh, on a sacrifice fly from senior co-captain Kevin Mortimer.

Freshman Buddy Shea highlighted the Bowdoin offense, going 1-2 with a walk, while sophomore John Lefeber pitched seven innings, allowing four earned runs for the Polar Bears. Despite their 18 losses this spring, the Polar Bears own the sixth-strongest schedule in the nation. Selections will be announced here, when available.
