Box Score BRUNSWICK, Maine - The Bates College baseball team used a late rally to earn its first win in Brunswick since 2005, 4-3 over Bowdoin on Friday afternoon at Pickard Field.
The Bobcats snap an eight-game losing streak at Pickard Field and improve to 12-8 (1-3 NESCAC) with the win. The Polar Bears drop to 11-8 (0-1 NESCAC) with the loss. The teams will play a doubleheader in Lewiston on Saturday beginning at noon.
Down 3-2 in the top of the eighth, pinch hitter Nate Pajka delivered a two-out, bases loaded single through the left side of the infield, bringing home Kevin Davis and Ryan Curit to give the Bobcats the 4-3 lead. Bowdoin put baserunners on in both the eighth and ninth but couldn't plate a run to tie the game.
Michael Spinosa earned the win for Bates, tossing eight innings and allowing six hits and three earned runs while striking out six. Brad Reynolds pitched the ninth to earn the save for the Bobcats. Christian Martin got a no-decision for Bowdoin after allowing eight hits and two earned over seven frames with nine strikouts. Henry Van Zant was charged with the loss after allowing the two Bates runs in the eighth.
Bowdoin had taken a 3-1 lead in the fourth when Tim McGarry brought home Kyle LeBlanc and Luke Regan with a double to right center. Bates trimmed the lead to 3-2 in the fifth on an RBI single byGriff Tewksbury that scored Mekae Hyde.
Hyde went 3-4 with two runs scored for Bates. Tewksbury, Kevin McGregor and Mike Ciummei each had a pair of hits for the Bobcats. McGarry and Regan each had two hits for Bowdoin.
