Men's Tennis Dominates Doubles Play, Earns Seventh Straight Victory

BRUNSWICK, Maine - The Bowdoin College men's tennis team extended its winning streak to seven matches with a convincing 7-2 win over Bates on Friday afternoon at the Pickard Tennis Courts.

The winning streak is the longest for the team since the 2009 season and improves the ninth-ranked Polar Bears to 9-5 (5-1 NESCAC). 15th-ranked Bates falls to 6-6 (1-3 NESCAC) with the loss.

Bowdoin again dominated doubles play, and have posted an astounding 21-0 record in doubles matches on their current seven-match surge. The duos of Sam King/Oscar Pena (8-5), Kyle Wolstencroft/Doug Caplan (8-4) and Casey Grindon/Chris Lord (8-3) gave the hosts a commanding 3-0 lead heading into singles action.

Pena took a 6-2, 6-4 win at #2 singles play and was supported by straight-set wins from Grindon at #4 (6-0, 6-2), Noah Bragg at #5 (6-4, 6-3) and Wolstencroft at #6 (6-0, 6-0) to clinch the win.

Bowdoin will return to action on Sunday morning at home against Hamilton. In the event of inclement weather, matches will be moved to the Maine Pines Tennis Center.
