Top-Ranked Amherst Edges Bowdoin in NESCAC Men's Tennis Opener

CLAREMONT, Calif.- The Bowdoin College men's tennis team dropped a 7-2 decision to top-ranked Amherst on Tuesday afternoon in California.

The 14th-ranked Polar Bears fall to 2-5 (0-1 NESCAC) this spring while the Jeffs stand at 5-0 (1-0 NESCAC).

Bowdoin was able to take two points from Amherst, getting a win at #2 doubles from first-years Kyle Wolstencroft and Doug Caplan and then getting a victory from Casey Grindon at #4 doubles.

The Polar Bears came close to knocking off the Jeffs, as they fell in two toss-up matches in doubles play, as Oscar Pena and Sam King lost 9-7 at #1 while Kyle Winingham and Noah Bragg lost 9-8 (4) at #3. Pena (#2) and Wolstencroft (#6) both dropped three-set decisions in singles play.
