Box Score WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. - Despite a game-high 25 points and 10 rebounds by Bowdoin's Jill Henrikson, the Williams College women's basketball team defeated the Polar Bears for the just the second time since 2000, 67-55 on Saturday afternoon.
Henrikson led all players with her 25 points, including a 10-11 effort from the free throw line, with ten rebounds and three steals. Amy Hackett also scored 12 in the losing effort for Bowdoin. Jill Greenberg paced the Ephs with 19 points. The loss snaps Bowdoin's five-game win streak and drops the Polar Bears to 16-6 (5-3 NESCAC). Williams improves to 18-4 (5-3 NESCAC).
Bowdoin came out firing, taking a 14-4 lead just six minutes into the contest. Williams responded with an 8-0 surge to get back into the game and the squads settled in for a back-and-forth affair for the remainder of the period with the hosts holding a 32-30 edge at the break.
The Polar Bears were able to regain the lead early in the second stanza but a Greenberg three-pointer sparked a 12-0 run that gave Williams a 44-34 edge with 15:12 to go. Bowdoin did not go away and chipped away at the Ephs lead, coming within two points, 57-55, on a Nicole Coombes lay-in with 5:00 remaining. The Polar Bears would not score again, however, as the Ephs closed the game on an 10-0 run to seal the victory.
Bowdoin struggled to find its shot throughout the contest and finished 30.0% (18-60) for the contest, including 6-25 from three-point range. Williams shot 42.6% (23-54) and held a slim 41-40 edge on the boards.
