HARTFORD, Conn. - Senior co-captain Graham Sisson scored a power play goal for the visiting Bowdoin College men's ice hockey team early in the third period to force an eventual 4-4 tie against Trinity College Saturday afternoon on Williams Rink in the Koeppel Community Sports Center.
Daniel Weiniger scored twice for Bowdoin, who moves to 8-4-2 overall and 6-2-2 in the league and are unbeaten in their last six league matches (5-0-1).
Trinity junior Jordan So got the scoring started 4:43 into the game to give the Bantams a 1-0 jumpstart. Bowdoin sophomore Colin Downey and Weiniger answered for the Polar Bears in the opening period with a goal apiece to give Bowdoin a 2-1 lead by the end of the first. Trinity senior co-captain Michael DeMayo tied the game again, 2-2, 7:22 into the second period, but Weiniger would net his second goal of the game to put Bowdoin back on top, 3-2.
This time it was Trinity's turn to answer with two goals to end a period, as the Bantams took a 4-3 lead behind goals by Michael Flynn and Chris Menard heading into the third frame.
Sisson marked an early power play goal less than five minutes into the third. Bowdoin outshot Trinity 15-1 in the period, but was unable to regain a lead. The offensive drought for both teams carried into overtime, which would expire without a deciding score.
It was a back-and-forth game of attacks, featuring constant offensive pressure on both sides, as Trinity and Bowdoin combined for a total of 74 shots. Bowdoin fired 47 of those shots, and Benjamin Coulthard tallied a season-high 43 stops. Bowdoin junior Connor Shannon made 14 saves off the bench, allowing one goal in just over 35 minutes of action. Senior goaltender Richard Nerland made 17 stops and allowed three goals in the start for the Polar Bears.
