Box Score WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. - The Bowdoin College field hockey team had little trouble dispatching Williams on Sunday afternoon, scoring three first-half goals en route to a convincing 3-1 victory. With the win, the fourth-ranked Polar Bears (5-0, 3-0 NESCAC) grab sole possession of first place in the NESCAC standings while the Ephs drop to a tie for ninth (3-3, 1-3 NESCAC).
Playing their second game in as many days against a NESCAC rival, the Polar Bears picked up where they left off Saturday's game against Middlebury, taking control of Sunday's contest with three goals in the first 27:20. Cathleen Smith got things started just 1:50 into the game, notching her team-leading fifth goal of the season to give Bowdoin an early edge. Less than 12 minutes later, Katie Herter found the back of the net at 13:38 and McKenna Teague added her first goal of the season at 27:20 to give the Polar Bears a 3-0 edge at intermission.
Williams, who could not muster a shot until 25 minutes into the game, was finally able to break through with 1:13 remaining to trim the final score to 3-1 courtesy of Meera Sivalingam.The goal marked the first for the Ephs against the Polar Bears since 2007.
Kayla Lessard made three saves in net for the Polar Bears, who won their sixth-straight match against Williams, while Arian Spiliotes made four stops for the Ephs. After three games in the last five days, Bowdoin will play once in their next nine, as they travel to Connecticut College next Saturday, October 1.
