Polar Bears Bow to Amherst in First NESCAC Defeat

AMHERST, Mass. - The Bowdoin College men's tennis team lost its first NESCAC match of the season in a 7-2 setback at Amherst on Saturday. Fourth-ranked Amherst swept Bowdoin in doubles play and won four singles matches to improve to 22-1 overall and 2-0 in the conference. The 14th-ranked Polar Bears (7-3, 2-1) will host top-ranked Middlebury College next Saturday in their final home match of the regular season.

Bowdoin received a pair of come-from-behind wins in singles play to net their two points on the day. Stephen Sullivan, the region's fourth-ranked player, dropped the opening set but bounced back for a 3-6, 7-5, 10-4 win at #1 singles. Oscar Pena would follow suit for the Polar Bears, as he dropped his first set to Koenig but battled back to earn a 2-6, 7-6(4), 10-4 victory at number four.
