Bowdoin Cruises To Another NESCAC Win, Tips Tufts 8-1

BRUNSWICK, Maine - The Bowdoin College men's tennis team made quick work of Tufts on Sunday afternoon, taking an 8-1 victory to complete a weekend sweep of NESCAC teams. Sunday's win, combined with a victory over Wesleyan yesterday afternoon, has the Polar Bears sitting at 6-2 (2-0 NESCAC) this spring while the Jumbos fall to 7-3 (1-1 NESCAC).

The Polar Bears continued their recent hot doubles play by sweeping the three pairings to sprint to an early 3-0 advantage. Bowdoin never looked back in singles action, taking five of the six matches to clinch the victory. First-year Chris Lord, who teamed with Kent Winingham to claim #3 doubles, remained unbeaten this year (8-0) after a straight-set win at #3 singles (6-2, 6-2). The rookie has yet to lose a set in singles action this spring.

Sam King (#2 singles) and Casey Grindon (#4 singles) each extended their recent winning streaks to five matches with individual victories while #1 player Stephen Sullivan collected another singles victory to improve to 6-1. Oscar Pena accounted for the other Bowdoin singles point at #5. Sullivan and King (#1 doubles) and Andrew Won and Grindon (#2 doubles) also netted doubles victories.

Ranked 14th in the latest ITA poll, Bowdoin will have their hands full next weekend in a pair of road matches in Massachusetts. The Polar Bears will play at 20th-ranked MIT on Friday before traveling to play at fourth-ranked Amherst on Saturday. The Polar Bears' next home match is scheduled for April 16th against top-ranked Middlebury.
