Bowdoin Blasts Wesleyan in NESCAC Opener Saturday

BRUNSWICK, Maine - The Bowdoin College men's tennis team opened NESCAC play with a convincing 9-0 win over Wesleyan University on Saturday afternoon in a match played indoors at Farley Field House. The Polar Bears, ranked 14th in the latest ITA Division III poll, win their fourth straight to improve to 5-2 overall this spring. The Cardinals stand at 6-5-1 overall this year.

Bowdoin jumped ahead with a trio of wins in doubles play and cruised through singles play without dropping a set. Stephen Sullivan and Sam King combined for an 8-6 win at #1 doubles against Michael Piderit and Jeff Legunn and both then earned singles points with Sullivan sweeping Legunn at #1 (6-1, 6-1) and King dropping Piderit at #2 (6-2, 6-2).

Chris Lord (#3), Casey Grindon (#4), Oscar Pena (#5) and Michael Power (#6) also netted singles points for the Polar Bears. Grindon and Kent Winingham (#2) and Lord and Andrew Won (#3) accounted for the Bowdoin doubles wins.
