BRUNSWICK, Maine - The Bowdoin College swimming and diving teams easily swept Colby in a home meet at Greason Pool on Saturday afternoon. The men's team completed a sweep of CBB rivals with a 216-68 win and finished their dual meet season with a 5-1 record, their best since 1992-93. The women sunk Colby 178-118 to finish the regular season with a mark of 3-3.
The men's team featured four multiple winners in Ryan Peabody, Basyl Stuyvesant, Nathan Mecray and Noah Perwin. Peabody won the 1650 freestyle (17:05.62) and 500 freestyle (4:56.83), Stuyvesant claimed the 100 backstroke (53.16) and 200 backstroke (1:56.39), Mecray claimed the 100 breaststroke (58.04) and 100 freestyle (46.84) while Perwin won the one meter (145.35) and three meter diving competitions (149.10). Other individual winners for the men included Linc Rhodes in the 200 freestyle (1:49.28), Chris Granata in the 200 butterfly (1:56.46), E.J. Googins in the 50 freestyle (22.33), Zach Perez in the 200 breaststroke (2:18.52) and Mac Routh in the 100 butterfly (52.38). Bowdoin also claimed the 200 yard medley relay courtesy of Stuyvesant, Mecray, Routh and Googins (1:36.50) while the 400 yard freestyle relay of Googins, Routh, Stuyvesant and Mecray (3:14.77) also placed first.
Allen Garner won a trio of events for the women's team, including the 100 backstroke (1:01.70), 200 backstroke (2:13.06) and 200 IM (2:14.24). Allison Palmer won a pair of events, the 50 freestyle (24.73) and 100 freestyle (54.22) while Laurel Varnell (100 breaststroke, 1:08.27), Ginger Leone (one meter dive, 182.77) and Mae Speight (three meter dive, 200.40) also earned victories. The Polar Bears also claimed the 200 yard medley relay with Garner, Caitlin Callahan, Christine Rholl and Palmer (1:51.27), while also winning the 400 freestyle relay with Rholl, Kaley Kokomoor, Sarah Hirschfeld and Palmer (3:41.32).
The Polar Bear women will return to action February 18-20 at the NESCAC Women's Swimming and Diving Championship hosted by Williams. The men's squad will host the NESCAC Men's Swimming and Diving Championship at Greason Pool on February 25-27.
