Bowdoin Skates To Win in Opener of Bowdoin-Colby Faceoff Classic

WATERVILLE, Maine - The Bowdoin College men's ice hockey team scored three times in the second period of a 5-2 win against Salve Regina in the opening day of the 2011 Bowdoin-Colby Faceoff Classic Saturday at Alfond Rink.

The Polar Bears improve to 2-1-1 this season. Salve Regina falls to 2-4-0 on the year.

Tim McGarry scored twice for the Polar Bears to up his point total to five in Bowdoin's last two games. He opened the scoring at 18:44 of the first period and then added an empty-netter at 19:40 of the third to seal the win. Robert Toczylowski, Donald Chute and Harry Matheson all scored second period tallies to give Bowdoin a 4-1 edge entering the final frame.

John Scorcia and Chad Goodwin had Salve Regina's goals. Ryan Collier and Jordan Lalor had two assists each for Bowdoin.

Richard Nerland collected 16 saves for the Polar Bears while Mike McDonald stopped 32 for the Seahawks. Salve Regina will play Colby at Bowdoin's Watson Arena at 1:00 p.m. Sunday. Bowdoin will play the U.S. Under-18 Team at 4:30 p.m.
