WATERVILLE, Maine - The Bowdoin College men's and women's swimming teams competed in a quad meet at Colby College on Saturday, with both teams earning victories. The Polar Bear men swept Wesleyan (205-86) and Trinity (182-105) while the women defeated Trinity (191-103) and lost to Wesleyan (165-128).
Nathan Mecray, Basyl Stuyvesant Chris Granata and Ryan Peabody led the Polar Bear men to victory, with all four taking a pair of individual wins. Mecray won both the 50 freestyle (21.38) and 100 freestyle (47.38) and Stuyvesant took the 100 backstroke (54.26) and 200 backstroke (1:56.29). Peabody won the 500 freestyle (4:52.78) and 1000 yard freestyle (10:15.50) while Granata placed first in the 200 butterfly (1:56.56) and 100 butterfly (53.63). Linc Rhodes also earned a win in the 200 individual medley (2:01.97). Bowdoin also claimed the 400 medley relay in 3:34.92 behind the efforts of Stuyvesant, Mecray, Mac Routh and Rhodes and the 400 freestyle relay in 3:16.69 by E.J. Googins, Routh, Stuyvesant and Mecray.
On the women's side, Bowdoin's Allen Garner took the 200 backstroke (2:14.64), Allison Palmer won the 50 freestyle (25.15) and Helen Newton placed first in the 100 breaststroke (1:10.19) for the Polar Bears.
The Polar Bears will return to action next Saturday when they host Colby College at noon.
