BRUNSWICK, Maine - The Tufts University baseball team clinched first place in the NESCAC Eastern Division and hosting rights for the 2010 NESCAC Championship in a doubleheader split with Bowdoin on Saturday. The Jumbos (21-4, 9-2 NESCAC) won the opener, 7-5, to seal first place before Bowdoin (21-10, 4-5 NESCAC) claimed the nightcap, 12-4.

Tied at five apiece entering the sixth inning of game one, Tufts scored a pair of runs to take the lead. Alex Perry led off with a double and came home on Frank Petroskey's two-bagger to give the Jumbos a 6-5 lead. After moving to third on a groundout, Petroskey scampered home on an Ian Goldberg groundout to push the lead to 7-5. Reliever Ed Bernstein took it from there, tossing 2.2 innings of scoreless ball for the win.

Matt Collins reached base four times for Tufts and scored two runs. Sam Sager and Chase Rose also collected a pair of hits. Brett Gorman led Bowdoin with two hits, two RBI and two runs scored in the loss as Brendan Garner also collected a pair of hits and a stolen base.
