WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. - The Williams College women's basketball team
defeated Bowdoin for the first time since 2000, taking a 75-54
victory over Bowdoin on Saturday afternoon. The Ephs improve to
17-5 (6-1 NESCAC) while the Polar Bears fall to 16-5 (3-4 NESCAC)
with the setback.
Bowdoin opened the game on a 12-5 spurt thanks to six early points
from Amy Hackett, but a 7-2 surge by Williams knotted the game at
14 with 12:35 left in the opening period. The Ephs used another
spurt, this time a 10-2 run, to take a 24-16 edge with five minutes
remaining in the first half. Grace Rehnquist and Clare Baecher hit
back-to-back three-point shots to build a thirteen point
advantage---the Ephs' largest lead of the half. Williams headed
into the break ahead, 37-24.
The Ephs hit six three-pointers in the second half to pull away
from the Polar Bears, who were 2-19 from three-point range for the
game. Katie Bergeron scored a game-high 18 points for Bowdoin.
Caitlin Hynes added 10 points and 8 boards, while teammate Amy
Hackett chipped in with 12 points. Four Ephs scored in double
figures, led by Jill Greenberg with 15 points.
Bowdoin held a 41-39 edge in rebounding, but committed 21
turnovers in the game. The Polar Bears had won 14 straight against
the Ephs.
