BRUNSWICK, Maine – The Bowdoin College women's
basketball team celebrated Senior Day at Morrell Gymnasium with a
resounding 81-37 victory over Connecticut College on Saturday. The
Polar Bears close out the regular season with a 19-5 record (5-4
NESCAC) and will be the fifth seed in the upcoming conference
tournament that begins next Saturday.
The Polar Bears will play at Tufts in a quarterfinal game on
February 20. More information will be available next week. The
Camels finish with a 8-16 record (0-9 NESCAC) and miss out on a
postseason tournament bid.
A methodic offense and stifling defense gave the hosts a 22-point
halftime lead. The Camels went for over nine minutes without a
field goal while the Polar Bears pulled away. Amy Hackett nailed a
pair of first-half three-pointers and Katie Bergeron connected on
all six of her attempts from the free-throw line as Bowdoin took a
37-15 edge into the break.
The second half was more of the same as every Polar Bear got into
the scoring column. Caitlin Hynes led all scorers with 17 points
and seven boards with four blocks. Ellery Gould connected on four
three-pointers and finished with 14 while Bergeron ended with 11.
Connecticut College was led by nine points from Jennifer
Shinall.
Bowdoin has won 15 straight over the Camels dating back to the
1994-95 season. The Polar Bear senior class of Hynes, Sabrina Cote
and Leah Rubega were feted in a pregame ceremony. The trio have
accumulated 91 victories, three NCAA Tournament appearances and two
NESCAC Championships in their distinguished careers.
