BRUNSWICK, Maine - Bowdoin senior co-captain Ben
Denton-Schneider scored the game-winning goal with less than
seven minutes remaining to give the Polar Bears a 2-1 victory over
Connecticut College on Saturday afternoon. The Polar Bears improve
to 3-1-2 (2-1-2 NESCAC) this season with the win while the Camels
drop to 3-3-1 overall (1-2-1 NESCAC).
Despite being out-shot 7-3 in the opening period, it was the
Camels who found the back of the
net first, in the 38th minute. A scramble in the box resulted in
the ball coming to the foot of Randy Pearce, who chipped a
perfectly-placed pass to Trevor Prophet, who headed it into the
goal to give the visitors a 1-0 lead at intermission.
Bowdoin answered shortly after halftime, as Tim Prior blasted a corner
kick to the box, where Sean Bishop streaked in and
headed home his first goal of the season to deadlock the score at
46:05. Bowdoin continued to control the tempo, out-shooting the
Camels 8-3 in the second period, but couldn't find the go-ahead
goal until late.
Off a free kick with just under seven minutes to go, Eddie Jones played the ball
to Prior, who lofted another neatly-placed crossing pass into the
box for Denton-Schneider, who headed home the clinching score.
Casey Marini played valiantly in net for the Camels, making eight
saves. Dan Hicks made
one save in the victory for Bowdoin.
