Four-Goal Second Period Propels Polar Bears Past Purple Knights

BOX SCORE

BRUNSWICK, Maine - A four-goal second period lifted the Bowdoin College men's ice hockey team to a 6-2 victory over Saint Michael's on Saturday afternoon at Sidney J. Watson Arena. The Polar Bears improve to 7-3-0 overall this season while the Purple Knights fall to 2-8-1.

Senior captain Colin MacCormack netted a pair of shorthanded goals in the second period and assisted on another as the Polar Bears skated to their seventh-straight win over Saint Michael's.

Bowdoin wasted little time in taking the lead, scoring on Daniel Weiniger's eighth goal of the season at 3:12 of the opening frame. Kit Smith added a score at 10:29 to increase the lead to two goals before Glenn Belmore knocked home a score 26 seconds later to make it 2-1 after one period.

Jeff Fanning got the Polar Bears going in the second period with a tally at 4:45 before a Mike Corbelle marker made it 4-1 at 7:41. Tim Geverd got one back for the Purple Knights on the powerplay at 8:59, but MacCormack sealed the win for Bowdoin with a pair of shorthanded goals less than two minutes apart to close out the frame.

Chris Rossi stopped 25 shots in net for Bowdoin for his fourth win of the season (4-0-0). Mike Dizgun (2-4-1) stopped 34 for Saint Michael's, including 18 in a valiant first-period effort to keep the Knights in contention.
