BRUNSWICK, Maine - A four-goal second period lifted the Bowdoin
College men's ice hockey team to a 6-2 victory over Saint Michael's
on Saturday afternoon at Sidney J. Watson Arena. The
Polar Bears improve to 7-3-0 overall this season while the Purple
Knights fall to 2-8-1.
Senior captain Colin MacCormack netted a pair of shorthanded goals
in the second period and assisted on another as the Polar Bears
skated to their seventh-straight win over Saint Michael's.
Bowdoin wasted little time in taking the lead, scoring on Daniel
Weiniger's eighth goal of the season at 3:12 of the opening frame.
Kit Smith added a score at 10:29 to increase the lead to two goals
before Glenn Belmore knocked home a score 26 seconds later to make
it 2-1 after one period.
Jeff Fanning got the Polar Bears going in the second period with a
tally at 4:45 before a Mike Corbelle marker made it 4-1 at 7:41.
Tim Geverd got one back for the Purple Knights on the powerplay at
8:59, but MacCormack sealed the win for Bowdoin with a pair of
shorthanded goals less than two minutes apart to close out the
frame.
Chris Rossi stopped 25 shots in net for Bowdoin for his fourth win
of the season (4-0-0). Mike Dizgun (2-4-1) stopped 34 for Saint
Michael's, including 18 in a valiant first-period effort to keep
the Knights in contention.
