WATERVILLE, Maine - The Thomas College men's basketball team used a
15-0 run early in the second half to pull away from Bowdoin in a
81-70 victory on Tuesday evening. The Terriers improve to 11-2 this
season while the Polar Bears fall to 9-6 overall.
With the game tied at 35 at intermission, the teams traded buckets
to open the second period. With Thomas holding a slim 43-42 lead at
the 15-minute mark, the hosts went on a 15-0 run over the next five
minutes to take a 58-42 advantage. The Polar Bears responded with
consecutive three-pointers from Will Hanley and Paul Sellew to trim
the margin to six points, but Bowdoin could get no closer than that
for the remainder of the game.
The Terriers got a game-high 23 points from Darrell Alexander and
shot 60% from the field in the second half to seal the win. Bowdoin
had five players in double figures, led by Mark Phillips' 16 and a
double-double (11 points, 11 rebounds) from Paul Sellew. Hanley,
Randy DeFeo and Mike Hauser also notched 11 points on the night.
Bowdoin held an advantage in rebounding, 37-32, but turned the ball
over 17 times and attempted just eight free throws (seven made)
compared to Thomas' 16-25 from the charity stripe.
